Overview Of Preferred SYSTEMS, Inc. ORIGEN
Preferred Systems's Origen eases the logical setup of
NetWare file servers and provides ongoing documentation for
the life of the server.
Origen enables a faster, more accurate logical configuration
of a new Novell file server and produces outstanding
reports, both at configuration and for existing file
servers. It does this by creating a virtual bindery of
standard file server defaults, system login script, and
application and work groups. To use on a new server, you
import the appropriate portions of this template, add users
and assign them to groups, review the reports, and
configure. Origen then quickly and accurately creates the
bindery objects of users and groups, assigns trustee rights,
and enables access to applications by copying needed
configuration files to users' home directories.
Origen's reports document the server and impose a logical
structure on the bindery information, detailing each
workgroup and application group, assigned trustee rights,
and the group membership. For application groups, the
locations of the program files, configuration files, and
personal and shared data directories are also recorded.
Group and user reports provide a snapshot of the server.
File server defaults for users and applications are also
documented.
These reports are the basis for the system administrator to
document groups, users, trustee rights, group configuration,
and server defaults; create a corporate template for new
servers; and plan a controlled cleanup of an existing
server. In addition to documenting current status, Origen
automates the creation of work groups wherever it reads
user-specific trustee rights. Whenever server changes are
made, Origen should be used to produce up-to-date reports.
Origen supports ELS II, 286 NetWare 2.1x and 2.2x, and 386
NetWare 3.10 and 3.11, and automatically converts access
rights between versions. A server license is required for
each server on which Origen is used either to configure or
document the server. The Origen Installation Kit is used to
do the data entry work for multiple servers, and a server
license pack is required to configure each individual server.
Additional file server licenses are available individually and
in five-packs.
Retail pricing in the USA is $695 per Installation Kit, which includes
three file server licenses, $195 per additional file server
license, and $495 for five bundled licenses.
